Miami GP Sprint Recap: Norris Wins But Antonelli Stays In Control

3 May 2026

Lando Norris claimed a spirited sprint race victory at the Miami International Autodrome on Saturday, but the result did little to dent championship leader Andrea Kimi Antonelli's advantage at the top of the standings. The McLaren driver banked eight valuable points — a timely boost for a team sitting third in the constructors standings, 82 points behind the dominant Mercedes outfit.

Race Highlights

Oscar Piastri completed a McLaren 1-2 in second place, a welcome double points haul for the Woking team. Charles Leclerc brought the Ferrari home in third, keeping Ferrari's pressure on Mercedes in the constructors fight. George Russell crossed the line fourth — the Mercedes driver goes into Sunday just 7 points off his own teammate Antonelli at the top of the drivers championship.

Max Verstappen salvaged fifth for Red Bull after charging through the field, but with just 16 points all season the four-time champion's title challenge looks increasingly distant. The RB20 has lacked the pace around the street-style circuits that have dominated the early calendar.

Championship Picture

Antonelli holds a 7-point advantage over Russell at the top with 75 points, while Leclerc sits third on 55. In the constructors, Mercedes are running away on 143 points with Ferrari on 98 and McLaren on 61. Norris's sprint win narrows the gap marginally, but McLaren need a string of big results if they are to mount any serious challenge.

Bold Prediction: Sunday's Grand Prix will be a battle between the two Mercedes drivers — and Antonelli uses pole position to extend his championship lead even further.
